surprise!

tuesday morning i woke up to 6 missed calls, 1 voicemail, and 4 text messages from my friend bobby! he had "missed" his flight in newark and was getting on a bus to come into manhattan for the day to hang out with me! i met him at port authority, and because he had never been to new york we hit the pavement to see every monument possible!

we managed to see times square, the chrysler building, the empire state building, grand central station, the plaza hotel, columbus circle, central park, museum of modern art (we spent 45 whole minutes here!), union square, crumbs bakery, trinity church, wall street, the bull, the statue of libery, and the new york times all within about 7 hours in 102 degree heat. i went to bed that night with a blister on my spine from my purse rubbing and a sunburn. it was so fun seeing somebody from school though!
such a fun day spent with bobby (and tyler towards the end)! cant wait to be back in college station with him and all my other buds.

girl crush: zooey deschanel

first, if you havent seen any of her movies (elf, yes man, 500 days of summer) or listened to any of her music (she & him) you just need to go ahead and do that.
some may call it boring, one-dimensional or average acting if you play the same sort of person in each film youre in, but i think (especially after witnessing her mannerisms and how she spoke at the concert this weekend) shes just being herself. so what if she doesnt feel like turning on a huge acting switch and instead just wants to have a little fun by being in a movie. her sweet disposition and adorable face are fun enough to watch and after seeing her movies numerous times, they never get old!

if that doesnt seem to do it for you, how about the fact that shes married to ben gibbard of death cab for cutie? he was at the concert on july 4th.
he couldn't stop staring at her. it was too cute!
can we say power couple?

long weekend

crazy last few days! sorry for the lack of updates. ive been feeling under the weather and just super tired. this weekend we had two shows back-to-back out at governors island. saturday was Portugal. The Man. and sunday was She & Him (a personal favorite).

fourth of july is my absolute favorite holiday. it reminds me so much of when i was little, chappel hill, hockley, the kiltz and tomball. one time in hockley all the boys were in charge of fireworks and all the girls were sitting on the fence watching them. one of the tubes fell on its side and the firework shot towards the fence and we all fell/jumped off to get out of the way. i remember that like it was yesterday! fourth of july was always a major holiday back in tomball/hockley. all of our close family friends would turn it into a day filled with swimming, food, fireworks and running around in the country -- something i miss a lot!

this years july 4th was, of course, fun because its my favorite holiday, but definitely treated a little differently than most texans do! other than watching the macy's fireworks show (which was incredible) on the hudson river there isnt a big sense of excitement for the fourth, which made me a little sad. so to compensate i went and bought myself a patriotic tshirt to get myself revved up for the big day.

my room mate, ainsley, has a house in The Poconos and invited us to go but since i had to work these shows only kelley could! so melissa (their besty from delaware who lives upstairs) stayed in the city and ended up coming out the governors with me and brought along some of her buds. we had a great time enjoying the (hot) sun, a glass of bushmills + ginger, and listening to she & him (or 'shim' as the boys called them).
as usual, kyra and i hit up the bushmills photobooth. see them all here! kyra thought it was hysterical that i loved july 4th so much. she stared at me and then busted out laughing after i asked "wouldnt it be SO awesome to spend july 4th in washington dc? our nations CAPITAL!?" i still think it would be sweet, not sure why you wouldnt want to do that! :)
the highlight for me was seeing she & him in concert, and from only about 20 feet away! zooey deschanal is (as you will soon learn) my new girl crush.
i hope you enjoyed your fourth of july festivities!

public house

thursday night was quite a success! we made our way to public house, a bar where my roomy ainsley works, for a fun night with the girls.
the columns are decorated as american flags...how appropriate for the soon-to-be holiday!
we had a great time, met some new friends and finished the night off by ordering Monster Pizza -- room 310's favorite.

if you feel like...

tearing up, singing along, developing a huge crush on finn or puck, or thinking about high school you need to watch this video. my room mate and i have been on a glee kick all day since were both feeling under the weather.

the returned ipad

i seriously encourage you to read this incredibly honest article. its about a man who returned his ipad because he missed the "boredom" in his life. he claimed he was too productive and missed the opportunities to think and be creative.
"But it did teach me something about the value of boredom. And I'm far more conscious now of using those extra moments, the in-between time, the walking and riding and waiting time, to let my mind wander."
