home sweet home

here's a few pics of my home for the next two months! three bedrooms with three beds each sharing a kitchen/living/2 bathrooms.
as of right now i dont have any people in my actual room. how pathetic does my little pink bed look at the end?
my neighborhood is in such a fun spot. im a 5 minute walk to the subway, 5 minute walk to the water, and 5 minute walk to a strip of stores/restaurants/bars that all the nyu kids frequent.

after my cry for help/desire for mexican food my sweet brittany texted me two places and guess what is one block from my apartment? i found this little treasure on my way home from work today! thanks dear friend -- only 3 weeks until you're all mine here in the city.

i'm all alonnnne...

there's no one here besiiiide meeee (shrek, anyone?).

i just saw my parents and little sissy off the the airport. i had a minor (30 second) cry session for myself in the middle of columbus circle. i quickly cured myself with a little retail therapy and bought some fruits and veggies from a cart on the sidewalk.

tonight i'm having dinner/hanging out with my nyc bud tyler so that'll be a nice way to get my family-less nyc summer started. he's living on the across town from me which, is a little trickier to get to as opposed to up/down town, but i'm willing to make some sacrifices to hang out with a fellow ag ;)

before they headed to the airport, the fam + i went to macy's where i made my first nyc-ish clothing purchase. again, not something i'd probably buy back in tejas but i love it. a little skirt by rachel roy.
all my buds asked me if i was going to start dressing different when i came home. i guess i can't promise them anything anymore...

things ny is missin...

after being here less than a week i've already noticed things new york doesn't seem to have...

1. sorority tshirts - i have yet to see one. not even ONE!
2. nike shorts - the first pair i saw was worn by my sister this morning
3. trucks - i've seen two
4. mexican restaurants - they have chipotle?
5. fountain drinks - no more speedy stop runs for me before work...

all of the above seem to embody cs so i guess i'm in for quite a different summer!

an easy breezy day

it's been a quiet and calm day :) just what i needed.

i spent the night at my parent's hotel last night after getting back late from the back fence and not wanting to take the subway alone. i slept in until about 10 and came back to my place while they went to chinatown, etc. but not without running into a parisian bakery and getting a raisin croissant first!

i poked around my apartment for a little while, got ready and then walked the 1.2 miles to get my official nyu ID since my temporary one stops working tomorrow. here it is!

im so official.

i picked up a sandwich at cafe doma and walked across the street to listen to a jazz band playing in washington square! the streets i walk to to get to the subway/across town are so cute and have tons of shops, bakerys, and restaurants in them. it never gets old.

i just caught up on glee and now im going to meet my family, get some dinner and then we're going to see mary poppins on broadway! rumor has it m.p is on of the best shows on broadway right now so i'm really looking forward to it!

off to hang out with my my family at their hotel! last night with them :(

shout out

the two weeks between finals and coming to the big apple were such a blast! all we did was lay out a the pool, play volleyball, watch movies, go to ng and enjoy our tuesday nights at ninfas.

i miss you guys so much and wish i could fly down for a tuesday night :) enjoy!

phew!

what. a. day.

we were on our feet from about 10-1:30 in the morning! dad and i showed sissy and mom lincoln square after we got breakfast wraps at a yummy european cafe.
then we went to central park! it was so fun seeing parts of the park from different movies and tv shows (ahem..gossip girl season 2 finale)! sissy and i took a pic under the bridge from enchanted which we later found out was named #1 movie filmed in central park.

the bethesda fountain was under construction so that will be a fun place to go back to later in the summer once it's finished. it was crazy to think i was in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world but it was so quiet and beautiful!
from there we headed to the metropolitan museum of art which is surrounded by central park/5th avenue. last gg reference i swear, but yogurt on the steps, anyone? :)
from there we grabbed a cab and (shockingly!) got a table at serendipity for dessert. sissy and i split three scoops of ice cream -- cinnamon, chocolate and vanilla -- with peanut butter on top! good gracious, it was SO good.
mom and dad split an iced coffee and fruit cup : ) and mom got a couple of their cookbooks...by complete surprise the author/owner of serendipity was there so he got to sign them!
off we went to the plaza hotel! i always loved the eloise books and movies...it was so fun seeing the place come to life.
we grabbed a few pics across the street at fao schwarz!
and louis vuitton of course!
from there sissy and i went and explored a little on our own and went shopping while mom and dad went to eat and get tickets for our broadway.

sissy and i got to see promises, promises (with kristin chenoweth from wicked and sean hayes from will&grace)! after the show we contemplated trying to get into the david letterman show but he isn't filming until the 9th so we walked down into times square and got dinner at the hard rock cafe.

i've been to the one in houston a couple times but i never really look around...what an incredible place! they had a ton of the beatles outfits and shakira's leather pants :) ow ow.

we ended the night at the back fence with mom and dad. dad's favorite guy was playing there so we had a fun time getting to know him and singing along to tiny dancer, sweet caroline, and space cowboy.

can't believe tonight is there last night.

fours a crowd!

dad and i slept in today, grabbed a bite to eat (a wonderful egg, bacon and cheese breakfast sandwich!) and ventured out to the airport via bus + subway to get mom and sissy.
it has already been so much fun having them here. we (aka: dad) had some trouble dragging their suitcases through the subway but we finally made it to their hotel and dropped their bags.

we went over to my place (pictures coming soon!) to show it off and then they peeled off and ended up going back to the hotel for a nap. i immediately fell asleep on my park avenue scotties and then walked next door to the grocery store to get a few things.

i met up with them (my first trip around nyc alone) in columbus circle and then we ventured around the upper west side.

if you don't know already, our family's favorite movie is you've got mail and we had fun getting pictures of a couple places featured in the movie. cafe lalo's is where tom hanks and meg ryan "meet" and zabars is the grocery store where meg's character gets in the cash only line : )
we hopped on the subway and took it down a few stops to times square...it was so fun seeing olivia's face as we turned the corner.
gotta have those solo shots.
the hershey's store smelled so good...chocccolattttteee.
we ended the night with dinner in little italy at restaurant called caffe sorrento. their ravioli was to die for! sorry you couldn't jump in on the wine glass picture, sissy ;)

it's so fun having them here.
